Activated alumina is the commercial name of aluminum oxide, a very effective and perfectly regenerable dehydrating material. It appears as white pearls, is insoluble in water and has high mechanical resistance.

Exactly like other dehydrating products, such as silica gel or molecular sieves, alumina does not increase in volume when it absorbs water, does not change color and does not leach any liquid. It is an inert and non-toxic product as long as it is not contaminated by toxic gases or liquids during use.

In fact, this desiccant is highly sensitive to any traces of oil suspended in the air or gas flow. In industrial plants that may show the presence of oil in the circuit, it is recommended to install appropriate filters upstream of the dryer containing the alumina, in order to preserve the dehydrating bed from contamination which would lead to a drastic and irreversible deterioration of the product efficacy.

Activated alumina finds many uses in the industrial sector. It is mainly used as a bed of dehydrating material in hot or cold regenerated adsorption dryers.

Other uses include the use of alumina as a dryer and purifier of various types of industrial gases such as argon, hydrogen, oxygen, air, ethane, methane, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, natural gas, helium and nitrogen.

Alumina is widely used in the chemical and petrochemical industry for analyzes with adsorption chromatographic columns of inorganic and organic compounds including hydrocarbons.

The alumina supplied by us must only be used for the treatment of gases or adsorption of water in the gaseous state. Treatment in drinking water to remove fluoride is not permitted.
